This was my fault. I made a change to the software that broke the servers for the other languages. I fixed it yesterday so it should be ok now. My sincere apologies.

Hi, since a couple of days, I get this message from the plugin when I try to check spelling on any page/site:

“After The Deadline could not connect to the server. Please check your connection and try again”

My internet connection works perfectly, any ideas ?

Glad to help. Making something that doesn’t interfere with your day-to-day use of the web is important to us. We keep auto-detect off because it works well for anything beyond a sentence but may be wrong when it has only a few words to go off of. We prefer only users who have a need for it enable it.

Words like Facebook (capitalized, since it’s a proper noun) are already in the AtD dictionary. You can prevent any error, including ‘facebook’ from being highlighted by selecting Ignore Always. This will add the phrase or word to an ignore list so it’s never shown as an error to you again. You can manage this list (including removing items from this list) from the AtD preferences dialog.

I just wanna say how much I love this plugin. I heavily depend on spell correctors and this one was really needed.

I just learned reading this that it was available in different languages. Maybe the options to change language should be on the screen when you right-click. I went into the options and clicked on Auto Detect Language When Proof Reading – maybe that should be automatically on.

Wonderful plugin. It works and it doesn’t seem to interfere with anything else.

Is there a way or can you add a way to add words to dictionary like ‘facebook’ for example?

Oooh, this is a good question. Right now you can go to about:config and change extensions.afterthedeadline.proofreadLanguage to map to your server. If the proofread language is changed in the preferences, this value will get overwritten.

If you are running you’re own AtD server, is it possible to point the Firefox extension to use it instead of the server you host?

I find the greatest value of on-the-fly checking is making sure your writing is actually checked. I forgot to run AtD at times. This is why we created the auto-proofread feature. When you click a form submit button, AtD will check any editors associated with that form and prompt you if there are errors. It’s optional and can be turned off if you don’t like it.

Some type of on-the-fly checking would be appreciated.
